From April 29 to May 5, 2025, the KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association hosted the “Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration” project in Madrid/Alcobendas, Spain. The project aimed to raise awareness among youth workers about climate change, environmental migration, and the environmental impacts of wars.
Today, human displacement is not only caused by economic or political reasons but also by environmental factors. Global climate change, natural disasters, the degradation of agricultural lands, and resource scarcity force people to leave their homes. The concept of climate refugees has emerged in this context. However, current international laws do not fully cover the rights of these individuals.
The project brought together 23 youth workers from Spain, Türkiye, Estonia, Italy, Romania, Hungary, and Macedonia. Participants shared experiences, discussed challenges, and engaged in creative activities to address environmental and migration issues.
The project enhanced youth workers’ skills and introduced new methods for engaging young people through non-formal education. By applying the “Learning to Learn” principle, participants will implement innovative approaches in cultural, sports, environmental, and voluntary activities.
At the local level, the project raised awareness about environmental sustainability and encouraged active community participation. Internationally, it allowed youth workers from different countries to share experiences, creating global awareness about the environmental impacts of wars and climate-related migration.
The “Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration” project successfully highlighted the connections between war, climate change, and human displacement. Participants gained inspiration and practical tools to develop environmental sustainability initiatives and projects promoting peace.
Following this project, the KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association will continue its efforts to raise awareness on climate refugees, environmental protection, and youth participation in social responsibility initiatives, empowering young people to act locally and globally.
