Empathy and Accessibility Take Centre Stage in Pathways of Inclusion

The second day of the Erasmus+ KA153 Mobility of Youth Workers project "Pathways of Inclusion" (Project No: 2025-1-ES02-KA153-YOU-000297370) continued in Madrid, Spain, under the coordination of KUFF Asociación de Solidaridad con Refugiados y Minorías. Bringing together partners from Spain, Türkiye, Portugal, Greece, Hungary, and Romania, the project continued to strengthen youth workers' competences in inclusive practices through interactive and experiential learning activities.

The day began with an energiser activity designed to improve communication and teamwork before participants took part in a session focusing on safe mobility for visually impaired individuals. Through discussions and group work, participants explored traffic safety, accessibility challenges, and practical ways to make urban environments safer for people with visual impairments.

Participants then carried out an Accessibility Assessment Walk, evaluating streets, pavements, and public spaces in Madrid from the perspective of visually impaired individuals. Working in international teams, they identified barriers affecting independent mobility and proposed practical solutions that could contribute to more inclusive urban environments.

During the afternoon, participants watched the inspiring story of Turkish artist Eşref Armağan, whose achievements demonstrated that visual impairment is never a barrier to creativity or success. This was followed by an empathy workshop in which participants completed everyday tasks while blindfolded, allowing them to experience some of the daily challenges faced by visually impaired people and develop a deeper understanding of inclusion and accessibility.

The day concluded with an evaluation session where participants reflected on their learning outcomes, exchanged ideas, and discussed how the knowledge gained could be transferred into their own organisations and local communities. Through these activities, Pathways of Inclusion continued to promote empathy, accessibility, and equal opportunities in youth work across Europe.
