Throwback: Empowering Youth Workers Against Addiction

The Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project "Don't Get Addicted to Drugs and Become Detached from Life!" (Project No. 2023-2-TR01-KA153-YOU-000168035) was implemented in Antalya, Türkiye, between 22–29 October 2024, under the coordination of Toplum Sağlığını Geliştirme Platformu. The project brought together youth workers from Spain, Latvia, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Türkiye, and Georgia to strengthen their competences in preventing substance addiction through non-formal education, international cooperation, and intercultural learning. KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association proudly participated in the mobility as a partner organization, contributing to the exchange of knowledge, good practices, and collaborative learning throughout the project.

Throughout the mobility, participants explored substance addiction from psychological, social, educational, and community perspectives. Through expert seminars, panel discussions, documentary and film analysis, symposiums with young people, field research, and collaborative workshops, they examined the causes and consequences of addiction while exchanging practical approaches to prevention. These activities enhanced participants' critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and facilitation skills, equipping them with innovative non-formal education methods that can be applied in their local youth work.

A strong focus was placed on promoting healthy lifestyles as an effective way to prevent addiction. Educational sessions highlighted the positive role of sport, physical activity, and active participation in helping young people develop resilience, self-confidence, and positive social habits. Institutional visits, meetings with local stakeholders, and awareness-raising activities further expanded participants' understanding of community-based prevention initiatives and demonstrated how cooperation between civil society organizations can strengthen local and international impact.

The project also encouraged active citizenship and community engagement through dissemination activities, public awareness campaigns, and direct interaction with local communities. Participants promoted Erasmus+ opportunities, discussed the importance of volunteering, and shared project outcomes with the public and relevant stakeholders. As a partner organization, KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association reinforced its commitment to supporting international cooperation, social inclusion, and educational initiatives that empower young people and youth workers across Europe.

The mobility concluded with comprehensive reflection and evaluation activities, including Youthpass self-assessment and collaborative feedback sessions that allowed participants to recognize their personal and professional development. The knowledge, partnerships, and practical methods gained during the project continue to strengthen KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association's capacity to develop impactful international projects and promote healthier, more inclusive, and more resilient communities through Erasmus+ and non-formal education.
